Wine of the Day: Louis Martini's Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Behind the Burner: Wine of the Day: Louis Martini\'s Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The winemakers at Louis Martini have always believed that Cabernet Sauvignon is the most noble of grapes, holding firmly to their motto, "from the best grapes come the best wines." And since they've been producing top notch wines for over 70 years, they've learned a thing or two about what it takes to produce a bottle you won't forget.

Laden with intense aromas of black currants, licorice and cedar, this bottle makes for a perfect holiday sipper. Its velvet-smooth finish and hints of leather, tobacco and vanilla layers also make this wine a great partner for dark chocolate treats.

Tip: Aside from dessert, Louis Martini Cabernet pairs well with poached, grilled, or roasted red meats as well as strong and salty cheeses. Check out Behind the Burner's sommelier lesson with Landmarc's wine director, David Lombardo, for even more holiday wines to choose from.

Product of the Day: Creative Danes Wine Breather Carafe

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Creative Danes Wine Breather Carafe

If you're a wine lover who doesn't own a decanter, it's probably time to think about investing in one. But if you're a wine lover who doesn't want to decant an entire bottle for nothing then wait for the wine to aerate, then think about investing in Creative Danes' Wine Breather Carafe.

This handy wine gadget not only decants and aerates an entire bottle of wine in 5 minutes flat, but it also comes with a lid that turns this decanter into an airtight storage container for any wine you don't finish. By pouring the wine back and forth between the bottle and decanter, it is able to aerate and bloom more quickly. This Wine Breather adds 740% more oxygen after the first flip, 940% after the second flip, and 1000% more oxygen after being poured into the glass.

Tip: Decanting older wine helps remove any sediment in the bottle, while younger wines benefit from the aeration, which softens tannins and acids.

Wine of the Day: La Marca 2008 Prosecco Spumante

Behind the Burner: Wine of the Day: La Marca 2008 Prosecco Spumante

If I had it my way, I'd drink sparkling wine every day, all day, for the rest of my life. Sadly, this is not feasible and so I turn to a weekly sampling of different varieties of sparkling wines, including Cavas, Champagnes, my down-on-my-luck Martini and Rossi and, my all time top 5, Prosecco.

La Marca's 2008 Spumante is made in Northern Italy from Prosecco grapes. It's lightly floral and fruity with low alcohol levels and that distinctly tingly sensation upon sipping. Golden in color, this sparkling wine has a flavor of ripe citrus, green apples and, underneath, toast. It's delightfully refreshing and crisp, perfect after a long, hot day toiling in your air conditioned office.

Tip: I never like to watch a film alone, and this Prosecco, besides blending well with crushed blackberries or between sips, also goes great with my favorite film by director Federico Fellini, La Dolce Vita. A little romance and bottle of bubbly are the makings of a great night in with someone (or someones) you love!

Snack of the Day: WineTime Bars

Behind the Burner: Snack of the Day: WineTime Bars

In New York, everything seems to be on the go: coffees, bagels, sandwiches, yogurt, and now at long last we can add wine to that list! WineTime bars combine my two favorite treats: wine and chocolate. They seem decadent, yet are actually beneficial to your health, leaving you guilt free.

Loaded with antioxidants, WineTime bars prevent aging and help with heart protection, with more Resveratrol than 50 glasses of red wine. These bars are also high in fiber and contain seven extra super fruits: cranberry, noni, pomegranate, goji berry, acai, mangosteen and blue berry.

And did I mention the taste? A combination of dark chocolate, fruit and wine allows you to have happy hour at any hour of the work day. I'd say these bars beat any man when it comes to wining and dining.

Wine of the Day: Mont-Ferrant Rosé Brut Cava

Behind the Burner: Wine of the Day: Mont-Ferrant Rosé Brut Cava

August is the month where any and all things are cause for celebration. Vacations are commencing (or ending), vows are said and glasses clinked for even the oddest of holidays, such as Elvis Presley Week. For those of us who love that Champagne feel but are not huge on the price tag, Cava is one of the next best, and delicious, choices.

Mont-Ferrant Rosé Brut Cava is a traditionally created Cava with a twist: its pink hue is a result of ideal weather conditions from May to October in the normally temperate Spain. Enjoyed well chilled, this Cava is affordable, has a distinctly silky texture and a pure bouquet. This bottle works perfectly for a late night get-together...even if said get-together happens to be you, the couch and a pile of awesome Blu-Rays.

Tip: Pair this intriguingly colored wine with Spanish small-plate tapas and a sweet film by Spanish director Isabel Coixet, The Secret Life of Words. This deep film works perfectly with the light, perky flavor of the Cava.
