Product of the Day: Gnosis Chocolate

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Gnosis Chocolate

If you’re not a chocolate lover, I would suggest you stop reading this right now. Actually, keep reading because this might just change your mind. To me, chocolate is the one food group (yeah, I said it—food group) that, the second it touches the tongue, turns me into an addict. Once separated, the swirly, sugary, melty, crunchy, sweet, salty world of cocoa has me licking tables, napkins and even a hand or two for just one more crumb. But the problem is, sugar and I are just not friends. We fight all the time; I leave and say I’ll never be back; I come back, and in return, I get fat. It’s quite the relationship; let me tell you.

The concept of “life changing food” is something I’ve encountered only a few times in my life. And the day I come in contact with a life changing food is, as I’m sure you can imagine, a great day. Well, today is a great day, as I’ve recently discovered; a term that has probably never crossed the lips of any nutritionist, doctor or trainer—healthy chocolate. Gnosis Chocolate prides itself on being the World’s most nutritious chocolate. You heard me, nutritious. Gnosis uses entirely organic, raw cacao, raw superfoods, low-glycemic sweeteners, fruits and herbs from every corner of the world. And let me tell you, it’s fantastic. Each ingredient is specially picked, paired and put into Gnosis’ Cacao bars, OrigiNib bars and truffles, ensuring that every bite is full of health-benefiting herbs and flavor-packed superfoods. With out-of-this-world ingredients like blue-green algae, Siberian ginseng and Burdock root—to name a few, each bar has a specific function, ranging from enhancing cognitive function to aiding digestion to protecting your body from free-radicals and literally everything in between.

I was incredibly lucky to be able to try a variety of flavors; flavors that made my taste buds hop from one cloud of smile-inducing chocolate to the next. My first venture into one of Gnosis’ creations was the Coconut Almond cacao bar. I broke the silence of a quiet room with, “Oh my gosh,” prompting jealous heads to look up and stare at me as I closed my eyes, smiled and I think even danced a little. The sweet, distinct taste of the coconut was reminiscent of my trips to the Caribbean—minus me shaking from a sugar overload—and the almond added a crunch and homey feel that blended insanely well with the smooth chocolate. Each bar is rich and creamy, but somehow light and airy all at once. The quality of the chocolate could be tasted in the first bite, immediately putting anything made with sugar and in a factory on my “never again” list. I made my way through Aphrodisia, Fleur de Sel, SuperChoc and Pomegranate Açai, literally giggling to myself about how good the chocolate was, attracting resentful chocolate lovers to eye me down. But I wasn’t done. The Bali, Grenada and Madagascar OrigiNibs were each special and spectacular, bursting with so many detectable flavors I wasn’t exactly sure what to do except continue giggling with chocolate smeared all over my face like a four-year-old. And good news, the chocolate is finally off my face, I’ve stopped receiving dirty looks, I feel smarter and more energized, and I’ve officially become a chocolate snob. I told you it was a great day.

Product of the Day: Rinaldo's Garlic Gold Oil

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Rinaldo\'s Garlic Gold Oil

Extra virgin olive oil has undeniable health benefits because it is less processed than regular olive oils. In general, olive oils are generally considered to have the most health benefits, but it's often hard to differentiate between products. If you're looking for an extra virgin olive oil with extra flare, try Rinaldo's Organic Garlic Gold Oil.

Each tablespoon is filled with full garlic flavor. Unlike other garlic olive oils, the flavor is not overpowering or hot. Best of all, you can count on getting the richest flavor from Rinaldo's Garlic Gold. It's produced on Seven Oaks Ranch in Ojai Valley, specializing in cultivating garlic.

Tip: Try sauteeing vegetables in this olive oil for extra flavor or add it to salad dressings for an extra kick!

Product of the Day: Paesana Organic Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce

Behind the Burner: Product of the Day: Paesana Organic Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce

Recently, my work hours have been a bit overwhelming and not always easy to manage with regards to making my own pasta sauces. Despite my preference for fresh tomatoes and hand diced garlic, I've resorted to covering my whole grain pastas with Paesana Organic Roasted Garlic Tomato Sauce. Made with 100% Imported Italian tomatoes, this hearty sauce is a great addition to a quickly thrown together pasta dish that doesn't require hours in the kitchen prepping by dicing and roasting, pressing and pureeing. Instead, when warmed up, the smell of roasted garlic fills the air and the tangy aroma has me relaxing after at truly long day at the office.

Tip: When using Paesana pasta sauce, warm it up a little bit in a pan (never the microwave!) and pour over freshly grilled lemon chicken. Top with some part-skim ricotta and fresh mozarella and you have a meal to DIE for.

Dessert of the Day: Dr. Oetker Organic Lava Cake

Behind the Burner: Dessert of the Day: Dr. Oetker Organic Lava Cake

Dr. Oetker Organic Lava Cake mix is my new chocolate obsession, and trust me, this is not your typical chocolate cake mix. Each bite explodes with warm and creamy batter inside a moist chocolate cake. Best of all, one box comes with enough batter to make four individual sized lava cakes to share for a girls night in.

Total preparation and cook time add up to only fifteen minutes, so this is perfect for last-minute desserts (or chocolate cravings). Unlike other desserts loaded with mystery ingredients, Dr. Oetker's Organic Lava Cakes can be a convenient and guilt-free treat with all natural ingredients— no saturated, trans-fat, or cholesterol inluded.

Tip: Add raspberry flavored syrup to the lava cake batter before cooking to add a subtle, fruity taste.

Snack of the Day: Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter

Behind the Burner: Snack of the Day: Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter

Artisana Organic Raw Cashew Butter is outrageously delicious, by far my favorite nut butter I've tasted to date. I can't believe I've found something I like just as much as (actually more then) my beloved peanut butter. This nut butter is naturally sweet with no added ingredients— just 100% organic roasted cashews (no peanuts, gluten, dairy or GMO's).

The creamy texture and delicate flavor makes for a cashew butter that melts in your mouth while providing a boost of energy and nutrition from the essential amino acids, vitamin K and zinc. Tip: Try using cashew butter in a smoothie, sauce or smeared on a piece of bread with your favorite jelly. Simply heavenly!
