Dish of the Day: Hummus Chicken Wraps from Nanoosh

Behind the Burner: Dish of the Day: Hummus Chicken Wraps from Nanoosh

Ever since the Behind the Burner team moved into our new offices, we've found ourselves grabbing a convenient slice of pizza from the Italian eatery downstairs way more often than searching out healthy lunch spots.

Enter Nanoosh Mediterranean Hummus Bar. With a delicious selection of organic hummus plates, wraps, soups and salads, you'll be guaranteed to walk away with a healthy meal you can feel good about. Their chicken hummus wrap, which has been a huge hit in our office, contains all-natural chicken breast, hummus, tahini and organic greens.

Tip: Eat more hummus! It's rich in protein and prevents cholesterol buildup in blood vessels.

Dish of the Day: Falafel Sandwich at Crisp

Behind the Burner: Dish of the Day: Falafel Sandwich at Crisp

I've always been a self-declared Mamoun's fanatic, so it's needless to say that I was somewhat hesitant when my colleague invited me to join her for lunch yesterday at Crisp in midtown. After she assured me she had already tried it and given their inventive Middle Eastern fare two enthusiastic thumbs up, I agreed to go.

The menu at Crisp is refreshingly modern, incorporating global flavors like North African peanut sauce, jalapeño dressing, sundried tomato spread, cilantro pesto and even goat cheese into their various sandwiches. Call me boring, but I opted for the classic "Crisp," a combination of falafel, hummus and cubed salad. Although no match for the $2.50 sandwich at Mamoun's, the portions here are gargantuan and are sure to satiate any appetite. The pitas are so packed with ingredients that they are served in boxlike holders to prevent everything from spilling out.

Although I'll always be loyal to my beloved Mamoun's, you can be sure that I'll be returning to Crisp again to quell midday hunger— next on my list is the "Crisp Africa" with peanut sauce, corn salad and sweet potatoes.

Tip: Watching your weight? Try ordering any one of Crisp's sandwich options as a salad.
