Drink of the Day: Ruby Partida

Behind the Burner: Drink of the Day: Ruby Partida

Cheers to Cinco de Mayo! Here in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. It is also an excuse for many Americans to leave work early to enjoy some guacamole and margaritas. But what’s Cinco de Mayo without tequila? In New York City, Cinco de Mayo is one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year, so if you happen to go out tonight, you can be sure that you’ll be peer pressured into taking at least one shot of tequila.

If you decide to stay inside to avoid the crowds and throw your own Cinco de Mayo bash, you can create your own tequila cocktail to kick off the celebration. An especially delicious cocktail that uses Partida Reposado Tequila is Ruby Partida. Ruby Partida is a beautiful blood orange color that is the perfect blend of sweet and tart flavors. Make sure to keep count of how many you drink because Ruby Partida is no joke and will definitely get your fiesta rolling!

Ruby Partida created by Dale De Groff

Ingredients
1 1/2 oz. Partida Reposado Tequila
1 1/2 oz. Fresh Ruby Red Grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. Fresh squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz. French Cassis.

Preparation
1. Shake the first 4 ingredients in a shaker with ice.
2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
3. Dribble the 1/2 oz. French Cassis down the inside of the glass so it will settle at the bottom.

Tip: You can always swap the grapefruit juice for any variety of orange juice you want. The drink tastes really great with orange mango juice as well.

Drink of the Day: Tequila

Behind the Burner: Drink of the Day: Tequila

Today is Cinco de Mayo, so you can probably bet that everyone has the same drink on their mind: tequila. In a cocktail, in a shot or even in your food; there is no better way to celebrate the national drink of Mexico. Here is a list of our top 5 favorite tequilas that will be sure to get the party going:

1. Patrón Añejo: Produced by blending a variety of oak aged tequilas, Patrón Añejo has a smooth and smoky taste that should be sipped straight.

2. Don Julio 1942: Aged in barrels for over 2 years, this tequila has hints of apples and oak with a sweet vanilla finish.

3. Casa Noble Crystal: Made from 100% agave, this USDA Organic tequila has clean, pure flavor notes of fresh herbs and mint.

4. Asombroso: With light flavors of licorice and spices, this tequila has an unbelievably smooth finish that's almost like velvet in a glass.

5. Milagro: Great for either cocktails or straight sipping, this versatile tequila has an earthy flavor with a smoky-sweet finish.

Going South of the Border: 5 New Cocktails for Cinco de Mayo

Behind the Burner: Going South of the Border: 5 New Cocktails for Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo: commonly mistaken with the Mexican Independence Day (September 16), this holiday actually commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. But more than any other holiday, Cinco de Mayo has come to represent the day when we all gather to celebrate Mexican heritage with parties, music, food, and, of course, lots of tequila. But if you're not in the mood for another frozen margarita and don't want to overdose on the tequila shots, try one of these updated cocktails with a south-of-the-border twist.

1. Bloody Maria: A Mexican take on the classic Bloody Mary, this drink incorporates the no-fail combination of tequila and lime, but tones down the booze level with a healthy dose of tomato juice. Spicy and savory, this drink will be the perfect start to your night (or day).

2. Iced Teaquila: Instead of serving Long Island Iced teas or even regular iced tea for that matter (this is a party, after all), try mixing up a pitcher of Iced Teaquila for your guests. Crisp, refreshing and only lightly sweetened with guava nectar, this drink will become your new tea-time staple.

3. Mango Margarita: Since it's hard to celebrate this holiday without some type of margarita, try trading in the lime juice for mango purée to put a summery spin on the classic.

4. Mexican Sangria: Sangria is the perfect party drink: it's easy, you can make huge batches of it and the fruity flavor is perfect for summer get-togethers. More potent than its Spanish counterpart, this sweet sipper will pair perfectly with hot or spicy foods.

5. Tequila Sunset: We've swapped orange juice and grenadine for pomegranate juice and blood orange juice. This combination makes for a more balanced flavor that also contains heart-healthy antioxidants.
