Behind the Burner: Old Fashioned Candied Pecans by Divya Gugnani

INGREDIENTS:

1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup evaporated milk
3 tablespoons maple syrup
32 mini marshmallows
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups coarsely chopped pecans
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

PREPARATION:

1. In a large, heavy saucepan, combine the sugars, milk and maple syrup.

2. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally.

3. Remove from the heat; stir in marshmallows and butter until melted. Add pecans, vanilla, and nutmeg; stir until mixture begins to thicken.

4. Rapidly drop tablespoonfuls of mixture onto waxed paper. Allow time to cool so it can set. Store in a sealed container at room temperature.
