Expert Interview: Brenda Marry
Behind the Mixologist
When did you first become interested in mixology?
I started as a cocktail waitress when I was 17 and always admired the bartenders. I always wanted to move up a level and get behind the bar. I loved the craziness behind it!
What brought you into the drink business?
The same thing that brings everyone into the drink business— fun and money!
If you don't order a cocktail at a restaurant or bar, which beverage do you choose?
I love a great glass of red wine.
What's your least favorite drink?
I love gin but gin doesn't love me, therefore, it has to be my least favorite.
What's your best mixology/drinking memory? What was the occasion?
Serving a group of guys that just came back from Iraq. They were so happy to be back home and celebrating. I spoiled them with lot's of great drinks/shots made with love and appreciation!
What are some of your favorite ingredients to add to cocktails?
I love to make sangria and throw all kinds of fresh fruit into the mix.
What are your thoughts on recent trends within the industry?
Everyone is trying to invent something new. I love how creative everyone is getting! Keeps you wondering— what's next?!!
