What were your favorite foods growing up?
Cereal. Specifically Fruitty Pebbles, Honeycomb, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms. Even back then I would take those cereals and combine them, I guess Me & Goji was always on my mind.

When did you decide to start Me & Goji?
The IDEA for our company came about while playing soccer with Adam at Northwestern University. Training multiple times per day, we were being asked to perform at a very high level without the proper fuel- dorm food was awful and making the trip to the grocery store without a car was a pain. After college, we each went to work in corporate America and after a year, decided that corporate America wasn't for us and that we should address the need we originally had in college.

When did you first become interested in food?
I come from a foodie family so I've always had an interest in food. My mom is an Iron Chef in the kitchen and I quickly realized I better learn these recipes or be a slave to restaurants in college.

What makes Me & Goji revolutionary?
We created a cereal as nature intended: unprocessed and without synthetic or artificial ingredients with more mix ins in. What is your favorite secret ingredient to add to cereals (besides, of course,goji...)?
I love coconut and Adam is always adding mulberries.

If I'm trying to watch my weight and I'm ordering cereals, which recipe would be best?
Our ingredients can be summed up as low calories, high nutrition. In addition, we allow you monitor the calories and carbs (and other important nutritional info) in your cereal as you add each individual ingredient. What was the hardest mountain to climb when starting your company?
The hardest part about starting our company was keeping a focus on our core business. There are so many different opportunities available to a young company, that you often get sidetracked.

What is your least favorite food?
Black licorice for me and Adam freaks out when he sees a mushroom on his plate.

What is your beverage of choice?
Anything that allows us to put in 14 hour work days.

What was the most spectacular meal you have ever had?
The first time I came home from college my mom made all my favorite foods: cappelletti, lamb chops and spinach pie.

What do you eat when you are home?
Me & Goji for breakfast, Subway (entrepreneur budget) and I usually cook dinner.

What do you hope to accomplish with Me & Goji?
We hope to reposition cereal from the traditional fast moving consumer good with low perceived value, to a healthy and delicious premium food.

Alexander Renzi

Alexander is one of the co-founders of Me & Goji (the other founder is his friend Adam, a Northwestern chum). The company allows consumers to create their own healthy cereal from many organic and natural products. Prior to Me & Goji, Alexander founded a data storage company and a payroll company in Los Angeles. A graduate from Northwestern University, where he played soccer, Alexander now resides in New York City.
