Wine of the Day: La Marca 2008 Prosecco Spumante
If I had it my way, I'd drink sparkling wine every day, all day, for the rest of my life. Sadly, this is not feasible and so I turn to a weekly sampling of different varieties of sparkling wines, including Cavas, Champagnes, my down-on-my-luck Martini and Rossi and, my all time top 5, Prosecco.
La Marca's 2008 Spumante is made in Northern Italy from Prosecco grapes. It's lightly floral and fruity with low alcohol levels and that distinctly tingly sensation upon sipping. Golden in color, this sparkling wine has a flavor of ripe citrus, green apples and, underneath, toast. It's delightfully refreshing and crisp, perfect after a long, hot day toiling in your air conditioned office.
Tip: I never like to watch a film alone, and this Prosecco, besides blending well with crushed blackberries or between sips, also goes great with my favorite film by director Federico Fellini, La Dolce Vita. A little romance and bottle of bubbly are the makings of a great night in with someone (or someones) you love!
