Get Your Drink On and Learn About the Spirits World
Hey New Yorkers! Sick of paying top dollar for top shelf and only getting a drink? How about spending your money on booze and meeting their makers in the process? Indy Spirits is putting on an exposition of over two-dozen distilleries in the heart of Midtown at Touch.
You can sample spirits from all over the world, including France, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Slovakia, the United States (and of course our very own New York). Quaff your way through small batch, boutique and artisanal whisky, tequila, vodka, rum and even ginger beer, and taste a little history as well. Taste
Get a chance to talk one-on-one to over two-dozen micro distilleries, brand owners and importers and engage in stimulating conversation instead of just paying ten dollars for a drink and leaving the bar. Did you know that when Prohibition outlawed the manufacture of alcoholic beverages in 1920, enterprising residents of Templeton, Iowa came together to create the American classic, Templeton Rye Whiskey? Or that Averna, a Sicilian digestif, still follows the traditional, unadulterated family recipe from 1868?
I'm looking forward to checking this out tonight (ah, the strenuous duties of foodie media, thankfully my Euro upbringing has well-prepared me). If this tickles your palate and brain, discount tickets are available to the public until 2:00 Wednesday, June 24, visit Indy Spirits Expo 2009 for details. Tickets available at door as well, cash only.
