Diners or Dinner?

Behind the Burner: Diners or Dinner?

You can't read about The Waverly Inn without mentions of the celebrity clientele, non-existent reservation phone number, and overpriced pours. So thank you to the The New York Times and Confessions of a Paparazzi for filling us in on the scene, now let's talk about the food!

John DeLucie has been at The Waverly Inn since its inception and is credited with finding the location for the restaurant. His food is what I call basic and brilliant. The highpoints are his plank roasted fish, delectable roasted beet salad, juicy pork chop, and light-as-air Dover sole. As a regular diner at this quaint West Village establishment, my all-time favorite as always been John's grilled octopus and now it can be your favorite too.

I always think twice about ordering octopus at a restaurant. Is it going to be a rubbery disaster or a buttery delight? When I go to The Waverly Inn, I don't have to roll the dice. In our video we take you into one of the most talked about restaurants in this country to learn the tips, tricks and techniques behind the chef that brings ordinary diners and celebs alike coming back everyday.

This shoot was very special for me as John is a dear friend, has been a supporter and advisor of Behind the Burner and has a truly distinctive style of non-fussy delicious food made from good ingredients. You see his Italian heritage peek out in bits and pieces of his menu but you will see it in full form in his personality in our video. Stay tuned as he has a new book, The Hunger, coming out in the spring. Until then, we'll satisfy your hunger with our Featured Promotion from Mylo Gourmet.
