Spread the Love: Unique Small Plates at Brindle Room

Behind the Burner: Spread the Love: Unique Small Plates at Brindle Room

Recently, it seems hard to escape the "mini" food trend in New York City—mini burgers, mini cupcakes, mini pizzas. Restaurants everywhere offer small plates and tapas–style menus that it’s almost little annoying—just give me a real burger already! But the newly opened Brindle Room in the East Village takes a new spin on small plates, and manages to make mini munchies exciting and satisfying.

You won’t find cutesy tapas here. Chef and owner Jeremy Spector's crispy pork belly is anything but a small plate. Served in a cast iron pot, with a soft and salty punch, the pork belly is tapas for real eaters.

But the highlight of Brindle Room’s small plates is the various spreads. From the roasted eggplant spread to chicken liver mousse, these spreads are inventive, sophisticated, and hearty. The warm, crusty bread serves as the perfect vehicle for these ingenious creations. Much more low maintenance than petite sliders, Brindle Room’s spreads are easy and delicious to eat.

Just when a food trend starts to tire out, someone finds a way to reinvent it. Brindle Room did just that, and hopefully this new take will continue to spread elsewhere.

Tip: Big plate or small plate, never skimp on dessert. The warm banana bread pudding with hot fudge is sure to whet your appetite, large or small.
