7 Ways to Make Your Kitchen Feng Shui Fabulous
Feng_shui is an ancient philosophy developed over 3,000 years ago in China, focused on creating a harmonious and balanced environment. In Chinese, the words feng shui mean "wind and water" and following the ancient principles promises to create a more positive qi or energy and keep it consistently flowing. For those of us who cook and entertain, positive home energy is a must when we are stove side—a little bit of luck doesn't hurt either.
How you arrange your kitchen can influence your well-being and wealth. In Fast Fen Shui by Stephanie Roberts, she stresses that the kitchen is considered one of the most important rooms in the house because it is where we connect with the energies that nourish us physically (food), financially (money) and emotionally (family). Who would have known that cooking with qi could reflect your earning?
Here are some tips, tricks and techniques to create more positive qi at your hearth:
Lights On: The kitchen should be well lit, airy, spacious, clean and bright to make it a welcoming space in your home.
If You Haven't Used It, Toss It: One of the key beliefs of feng shui is to avoid clutter. Keep things simple and don't overload the space with gadgets.
Uplift the Energy: Use a bowl of fruit or fresh flowers in your kitchen, on the table or in the windows to give your kitchen a warm and earthy feel.
Colors Matter: Use colors that blend well and feel good together. Yellow (in all shades) is a good choice because it's good for digestion. Incorporate the color green in your kitchen by using plants, It reinforces the message of vitality and life to a kitchen. Green also compliments the fire and water elements present in a kitchen.
Hide Them: Keep your knives in a wooden block and your scissors in a drawer. You don't want to display them because the cutting energy of these tools can create conflict and anxiety in your kitchen.
Who's There?: Having a clear view of the entrance while you cook makes you more relaxed while preparing food. If your stove faces a wall, position a mirror so it reflects the entrance. A shiny kettle on the stove will have the same effect.
Zap It: The microwave should not be above the stove, this oppresses the movement of qi flowing through the room and home. The microwave should be on a counter top away from the stove. Many feng shui experts shun microwaves as conductors of radiation and unnatural electro-magnetism.
Adhering to ancient Chinese philosophy may just make your time behind the burner entirely more enjoyable!
